Power Automate vs Nintex

Power Automate beats Nintex 8.3 to 7.4 on our four-agent test panel, winning 4 of 4 agents head to head. Power Automate: free tier; paid from $15/mo. Facts last verified October 7, 2026.

What actually differs

Power Automate is Microsoft's workflow tool, part of the Power Platform. Its strength is reach inside Microsoft 365: flows trigger from SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Excel and Dataverse with little setup, desktop flows add RPA for legacy apps, and Copilot can draft a flow from a plain-language description. Standard connectors come with many Microsoft 365 plans; premium connectors and unattended RPA are licensed separately.

Nintex is an independent vendor that grew up as the workflow add-on for SharePoint and now sells a broader process platform: process mapping and documentation, forms, document generation, e-signature and RPA alongside workflow. It's built for teams that want to model and govern a process end to end, across Microsoft and non-Microsoft systems, rather than stitch individual automations together.

  • Pick Power Automate if your organisation already runs on Microsoft 365 and you want automations that live next to SharePoint, Teams and Outlook without another vendor.
  • Pick Nintex if you need process mapping, document generation and e-signature in one governed platform, or your processes span many systems outside Microsoft.
