What actually differs

Google runs its own crawler and the largest web index, and ranks results with signals that include your location, language and, when you're signed in, your history. Ads and AI summaries sit above the organic results, and searches feed the profile used to target them.

SearXNG is open-source metasearch: it doesn't crawl the web, it forwards your query to engines you choose (Google can be one of them), merges what comes back, and strips your identity from the request. Results are only as good as those upstream engines and the instance you use; public instances that hit Google heavily get rate-limited, which is why many people self-host.

• Pick Google Search if you want the broadest, freshest results and local answers, and you're fine with ads and a signed-in profile.
• Pick SearXNG if you want Google-quality sources without the tracking, are willing to self-host or pick a good instance, and like choosing which engines get queried.
